Shot Put Technique

Let me explain how exactly one throws a shot put. First one will be throwing with a twelve pound shot put at the high school level or a sixteen pound shot in the collegiate level. The shot will need to be put in the prominent palm balancing right where the knuckles would be. Then, curl the fingers around it tight and lay the shot right under the chin on the neck. Next, bend both knees and have the back knee line up under whichever arm one will throw with a little more bent than the front one. This will give the ability to add power when launching off of  the prominent leg. When throwing the shot put, the other arm not being used must be up out to be able to pull the air and propel the chest upwards toward the sky. This gives the ability to use all of the muscles in the chest and also adds strength into the throw. Finally, extend that back leg and at the same time let the shot slide off of the neck and go forward with the momentum. When releasing, flick the wrist and  let go of the shot put. Propel one's body forward with everything one has to offer into the throw.
For the glide step of the throw,  slide the foot closest to the throwing arm forward and the other leg will now kick back. As the leg kicks back, one will land and allow their body to propel forward in order to let the shot put launch. After propelling forward, one will now throw it as if they were standing with the technique previously brought up. Angle matters with this throw as well. Aim at about forty five degrees. Wind does not affect the shot put throw as much.
There are many variations of throwing the shot-put. As a master, one still needs  to learn many of these on their own and will once again become a pupil. When it comes to shot put there are different ways to throw. Instead of the glide throw, one can just launch it with a spin or a slide step. A half spin can be added if needed. As an expert, I dabble with these techniques. I like to show the people I am teaching that there are many different options to try until they are comfortable with one. Every individual needs to develop their own personal throw.
